About A Place for Us

A Place for Us Ministries International, Inc. (APFUMI)  exist to empower vulnerable people, by offering valuable life skills, infusing the Good News, along with discipleship and various educational classes, we are able to show others a better way of life.

Our Residential Program was established in 2001, as a maternity home, in 2010 after seeing the lives that were changed through the established classes and mentor program, the board decided to expand our outreach to other young women with issues, such as cutting, suicidal thoughts, eating disorders, and other life controlling issues. Women ages 13-27 with a willing heart seeking change in their lives can enter our Residential program free of charge.

The heart of the ministry is centered around the following scripture:

"The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; to grant to those who mourn in Zion - to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified." Isaiah 61:1-3

Establishing the Residential & Transitional Homes

In 2002, a temporary home was opened in a donated facility on Lake Greenwood where over twenty residents were served. After this home sold in 2004, A Place for Us broke ground in 2005 for a permanent facility. The 3265 sf home, which was completed debt-free in December 2006, can house up to six residents at one time. Learn more about the Residential Home.  In August 2010, A Place for Us expanded the Residential Program to include young women struggling with other life-controlling issues, who are not pregnant. In addition, a local church offered use of their parsonage to be used as a Transitional Program in July 2015. This home was able to serve two graduates and their children. Unfortunately, A Place for Us Ministries discontinued the transitional program during the Covid epidemic.
